Description :
Late Medieval–Style Hand-and-a-Half (Bastard) Sword + Custom Leather Scabbard – 36" Blade This is a high-quality, historically inspired hand-and-a-half (“bastard”) sword—a style that became popular in the late medieval period (roughly 14th–15th century) as armor improved and fighters valued a weapon that could be used one-handed (with a buckler/shield) or two-handed for extra leverage and control. This sword has a 36" double-edged blade (about 44" overall) with a stiff diamond cross-section and no fuller, tapering to an acute point. That geometry is strongly associated with later medieval thrust-capable swords (often discussed in the “Type XV/XVa” family), emphasizing precision and point control—the kind of sword profile historically favored when facing armored opponents, where thrusting to openings and weak points mattered as much as cutting. Handling is excellent: it weighs 3.02 lb with a responsive point of balance ~4" from the guard, giving it a lively feel rather than the tip-heavy “wallhanger” handling common in decorative swords. The blade has proper bevel geometry but is currently left dull/unsharpened for safe handling (sharpenable if the buyer chooses). The hilt features a classic wheel pommel and swept crossguard, with solid, tight construction—no looseness or rattle, and the pommel is rock-solid with no movement. Included is a well-made custom leather scabbard with belt suspension, built like real gear rather than a thin costume sheath. Great for collectors, reenactment/costuming, or anyone who wants a well-proportioned medieval-style sword with convincing handling and a proper scabbard. Specs (quick): 36" blade • ~44" overall • 3.02 lb • PoB (point of balance) ~4" from guard • diamond-section blade, no fuller • includes custom leather scabbard & suspension.
